How Gari.com collects, uses and protects your information

Drafted to reflect your data flows (Odoo, Selcom, SMS/WhatsApp, TIRA insurance and TPF fine lookups). Must be reviewed by Sakri against Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 and its regulations before publication.
GARIDOTCOM LIMITED (“Gari.com”, “we”) is the data controller responsible for your personal information. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your rights.
It covers our website (gari-service.com), member portal (app.gari-service.com), and our in- branch and field services.
Identity and contact details: Name, phone number, email, address, and (for membership) ID or passport number.
Vehicle details: Registration/plate, make, model, year, VIN/chassis, mileage and insurance details.
Booking, service and purchase records.
Messages you send us, including via the AI assistant, WhatsApp, forms or reviews.
Basic usage and device data needed to operate the Platform securely (such as log data and cookies).
Insurance status from insurance/regulatory sources (e.g. TIRA) and traffic or parking notices from government sources (e.g. Tanzania Police Force systems), for your registered vehicles.
Payment confirmation from our payment partner (Selcom).
To provide services: Bookings, job cards, washes, diagnostics, repairs and parts.
To manage membership and benefits, including reminders and history.
To process payments and keep accounting and tax records.
To show you vehicle insurance status and fine/parking notices where available.
To communicate with you by SMS, WhatsApp, email or phone about your account and services.
To run and secure the AI assistant and the Platform.
To improve our services and meet legal obligations.
We process your data to perform our contract with you, to meet legal obligations, for our legitimate business interests, and with your consent where required.
You consent to service-related communications when you create an account or join membership. You can opt out of marketing messages at any time.
The Personal Data Protection Act, 2022 (Tanzania) requires a clear lawful basis and, in many cases, registration with the Personal Data Protection Commission. Confirm registration status and consent wording with Sakri.
We share data only as needed, with:
Service providers who help us operate — our ERP (Odoo), payment partner (Selcom), SMS/WhatsApp messaging providers, and hosting providers.
Government and regulatory systems where you ask us to look up your vehicle’s insurance or fines.
Professional advisors, insurers, or authorities where required by law.
We do not sell your personal data.
We do not store full card or bank account numbers. Payments are handled by Selcom under their own security standards. We keep records of transactions (amount, date, reference) for accounting.
Conversations with the AI assistant may be processed to answer your questions and improve the service. Please do not share sensitive information you do not want recorded. The assistant gives general information only and is not professional advice.
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above and to meet legal, tax and accounting requirements, after which it is deleted or anonymised.
Confirm retention periods with Sakri (Tanzanian tax law generally requires keeping financial records for a set number of years).
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including access controls and restricted staff permissions. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
Subject to Tanzanian law, you may:
Ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
Ask us to delete data where there is no lawful reason to keep it.
Object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent for marketing.

The Platform is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children without parental consent.
